Dawson's Creek script reading at ATX Festival: See photos

If you’re a Dawson’s Creek fan, this year’s ATX Festival was like heaven on earth. Not only did creator Kevin Williamson sit down with his partner-in-crime Julie Plec for a panel about their careers, but the writers’ room reunited to spill secrets about the WB series. The festival capped the Creek-tastic weekend with a special reading of the pilot script—though there was a twist.

Swapping gender roles, Parenthood star Mae Whitman played Dawson, while Suits’ Patrick J. Adams portrayed Joey — which was made particularly hilarious when the latter had to yell out, “I have breasts!” His Suits co-star Abigail Spencer read for Pacey, while Creek star Kerr Smith acted as Jen. (And yes, that is a photo of Taylor Kitsch as Friday Night Lights‘ Tim Riggins; Whitman brought it up on stage.)

Williamson was on hand to read the action sequences for the script reading, which also featured Louanne Stephens as Grams, Derek Phillips as Mr. Leery, Stacey Oristano as Mrs. Leery, Arielle Kebbel as Tamara, Kristian Bruun as Bessie and Nellie, and Nick Wechsler as Bodie and Mr. Gold.

The gender-swap offered up a lot of comedy for the future beloved love triangle between Dawson, Pacey and Joey—are you Team Dawson or Team Pacey? Hit the comments!

It was especially hilarious when Spencer was hot for teacher with Vampire Diaries alum Kebbel, who portrayed Tamara.

“I’m firm,” said FNL alum Stephens to scandalous laughs, before realizing she stepped on a line, “Oh no, that’s you!”
