Hulu orders drama series 'The Way' from team behind 'Parenthood'

The Way, a 10-episode family drama about a family at the center of a faith-based movement, will join Hulu’s upcoming slate of original programming, the streaming service announced today.

The series comes from Jason Katims’ True Jack Productions, responsible for such family-focused hits as Parenthood and Friday Night Lights, and Jessica Goldberg, writer and producer on Parenthood. Katims currently executive produces NBC’s About A Boy; The Way will be his first streaming series, as well as his first non-network television series.

“Jason Katims is responsible for the most groundbreaking shows about family seen through unique lenses,” said Craig Erwich, Hulu’s Senior Vice President and Head of Content, in a release. “He and Jessica Goldberg have delivered a provocative take on a controversial, dangerous, and thrilling world.”

Says Katims, “Craig Erwich and his team at Hulu have been so passionate from our first meeting, and it’s been a creatively rewarding, truly collaborative process from day one with them.”

The Way will begin production this summer. Other series on Hulu’s original programming docket slate include Stephen King and J.J. Abrams’ 11/22/63, starring James Franco; Difficult People, produced by Amy Poehler and starring Julie Klausner and Billy Eichner; and director Jason Reitman’s comedy Casual.
