Kerry Washington, 'The Imitation Game', 'Transparent' honored at the 26th Annual GLAAD Media Awards

The Imitation Game took home the Outstanding Film (wide release) prize Saturday night at the 26th Annual Los Angeles GLAAD Media Awards, hosted by comedian Tig Notaro, while Amazon’s ground-breaking comedy Transparent was the big winner in the television comedy category. Held at the Beverly Hilton, the event, which honors various branches of the media for their depiction of members in the LGBT community, also featured Ellen DeGeneres presenting actress Kerry Washington with the Vanguard Award for her continued support of equal rights.

ABC’s Viola Davis-starrer How to Get Away with Murder took home the Outstanding Drama series prize while Channing Tatum presented his White House Down director Roland Emmerich with the Kolzak award, given to an openly LGBT media professional who has promoted equality in his work.

Outstanding Blog: Autostraddle, autostraddle.com

GLAAD also presented Glee with a Special Recognition Award for its groundbreaking work over its six seasons. The Fox show aired its series finale on Friday night. Actor-singer Alex Newell, best known for his transgender role in Glee, performed I Know Where I’ve Been from the musical Hairspray to a standing ovation.
