'Mortal Kombat X' story trailer reintroduces Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade

More classic Mortal Kombat kombatants are returning, making the upcoming entry in the franchise a family affair.

The new story trailer for Mortalk Kombat X shows off a Cage family reunion, as Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, and their daughter Cassie Cage all pop up. The game was recently shown off at the Game Developers Conference, confirming that at the very least Johnny will be playable.

And Johnny is making sure his debut is a memorable one with a brutal finishing move that evokes another famous Johnny in pop culture to cap off the (unsurprisingly) gory and graphic trailer.

Other characters confirmed from GDC showings to appear in the single player mode include Kenshi, Smoke, Nightwolf, and Jax, but developer NetherRealms has not revealed the full roster of playable characters.

Mortal Kombat X will release on April 14 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC, and for mobile platforms sometime in early April.
