Everything goes horribly wrong in trailer for 'Island of Dr. Moreau' doc 'Lost Soul'

Director David Gregory's gripping account of filmmaker Richard Stanley's attempt to adapt H.G. Wells' classic. With Val Kilmer. And Marlon Brando. In a jungle!

Two decades before the Ice Bucket Challenge, Marlon Brando challenged the sanity of director John Frankenheimer when the acting legend insisted on wearing an ice bucket on his head during the making of The Island of Dr. Moreau, one of the most notorious cinematic trainwrecks of all-time. Indeed, it has long been assumed that a film about the production—during which original director Richard Stanley was fired and then returned in secret to portray one of the sci-fi extravaganza’s beast-people—would have to be more entertaining than the movie itself.

Cinemagoers can find out whether that’s true on Feb. 27 when a documentary called Lost Soul — The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau begins its theatrical run at L.A.’s Cinefamily and New York’s Nitehawk cinema. (Ahead of that, the film will also screen at SF Indie Fest on Feb. 7 with both Stanley and Lost Soul director David Gregory in attendance.)
