'Charlie Brown' repeat outperforms most new shows

GREAT PUMPKIN CHARLIE BROWN

Stalker and The Mysteries of Laura can’t compete with good ‘ol Charlie Brown.

ABC’s annual presentation of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown beat most broadcast shows Wednesday night in the key young adult demo. In fact, the 48-year-old animated repeat topped nine other series.

At 8:30 p.m., Charlie Brown had 6.3 million viewers and a 2.1 rating among adults 18-49. That was higher than The CW’s Arrow (0.8 rating), Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen (1.2) and Red Band Society (0.9), NBC’s Laura (1.3), Law & Order: SVU (1.7) and Chicago P.D. (1.6), CBS’ Stalker (1.7) and ABC’s own Nashville (1.3) and Charlie Brown’s lead-in Toy Story of Terror (1.8).

Coming out ahead of the ABC special: CBS’ Survivor (2.3), Criminal Minds (2.4), Modern Family (3.3) and Black-ish (2.5).

Charlie Brown flexes his ratings muscle practically every year. Great Pumpkin and Charlie Brown Christmas often deliver very strong ratings despite their age. Other titles in the more-extensive-than-you-might-think Peanuts filmography, such as a A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, not so much (Did you know there’s even an Arbor Day Charlie Brown special?)
