'The Purge' series to get third film

Anarchy will roam the streets once again.

EW has confirmed that Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes are developing a third installment in The Purge movie series. Director and writer James DeMonaco will return to helm and write the third movie, which will chronicle the one night of the year when murder is legal, which sucks for those who are unfortunate enough to be left on the streets as hell breaks loose. Deadline first reported the news.

The deal comes in part of Blumhouse Productions’ 10-year studio deal with Universal Pictures, along with the steep box office returns for the two previous films. According to Deadline, the first two films collectively cost $12 million to make and have grossed $200 million when counting international receipts, certifying the series as a profitable movie franchise.
