Casting Net: Alec Baldwin, Danny Glover to star in sci-fi film Andron

Alec Baldwin and Danny Glover will lead the cast of Andron, a sci-fi/action film from writer/director Franceso Cinquemani. The movie follows a group of young men and women who wake up in a dark, claustrophobic maze and struggle to survive, while the rest of the world watches. Also entering the maze are Michelle Ryan (EastEnders), Skin (lead singer from the U.K. band Skunk Anansie), Jon Kortajarena (A Single Man), Gale Harold (Queer as Folk) and Leo Howard (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra). [THR]

Dane DeHaan and Rooney Mara are about to get Ziggy with it. The pair will star in the period musical from Diesel Schwarze about a hunchback escape artist (the titular character played by DeHaan) in New York during the mass-culture boom of the late 1920s who falls in love with Mara’s character, the fiancée of a powerful media mogul. Songwriter and producer Alex Da Kid will write the film’s original contemporary music. Schwarze is the protégé of Australian director Baz Luhrmann and began working together on his film Moulin Rouge! • Blake Jenner (Glee), Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf), and Wyatt Russell (22 Jump Street) have been offered the lead roles in Boyhood director Richard Linklater‘s baseball-themed film That’s What I’m Talking About. The movie set in 1980 follows a college freshman who moves into the baseball house, which turns out to be more like a fraternity. Linklater also directed the stoner classic Dazed And Confused and is expected to bring a similar tone to this film. [Deadline]

• Michael Ealy has signed on to star as civil rights activist Dr. Gilbert Mason in the biopic A Civil Right. Mason was a Biloxi physician who staged nonviolent “wade-ins” in Gulf Coast beaches between 1959 and 1963. The protest against segregation led to the first successful anti-discrimination suit against the state of Mississippi. The movie comes from Where God Left His Shoes writer and director Salvatore Stabile. [Deadline]

• Maria Bello and sisters Sophie Nelisse (The Book Thief) and Isabelle Nelisse (Mama) will tell the ghost story Wait Till Helen Comes. Based on the 1986 novel by Mary Downing Hahn about a haunted house tormented by the ghost of a little girl, Bello will play the stepmother to the two girls in the film with Isabelle as Heather, the 7-year-old who becomes friends with the lonely ghost named Helen. Dominic James is directing from a script adapted by Victoria Sanchez Mandryk. [Variety]

Longtime friend and collaborator Greg Grunberghinted on Twitter that he may have a part in J.J. Abrams’ force and appear in Star Wars: Episode VII. [THR]
