There’s a new zombie drama coming to basic cable: Syfy’s Z Nation is a story of a band of survivors trekking across the country in the wake of an apocalyptic zombie plague, and the first full trailer is below. Syfy can only hope the show will deliver a healthy fraction of the audience that tune in to see TV’s highest-rated entertainment series—AMC’s The Walking Dead. There’s no Daryl Dixon, but there are zombie babies.

The 13-episode Z Nation picks up three years after a zombie virus has decimated the country and a team of everyday heroes must transport the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California, where the last functioning viral lab waits for his blood. More from the official description: “Although the antibodies he carries are the world’s last, best hope for a vaccine, he hides a dark secret that threatens them all. With humankind’s survival at stake, the ragtag band embarks on a journey of survival across three thousand miles of rusted-out post-apocalyptic America.”

Sounds promising, but can it compare to Walking Dead? The series stars Harold Perrineau, Tom Everett Scott, DJ Qualls, Michael Welch, Kellita Smith, Anastasia Baranova, Russell Hodgkinson, and Keith Allan. The series premiere is Friday, Sept. 12 at 10 p.m.
