The most oft-cast man in prime-time has new gig: James Van Der Beek has joined the team of CBS’ CSI: Cyber spin-off.

The Beek will play FBI Agent Elijah Mundo, “an expert in battlefield forensics recruited by Special Agent Avery Ryan (series star Patricia Arquette) for his war efforts in Afghanistan. Mundo is a savant when it comes to weaponry, vehicles and bombs. A self-proclaimed action junkie, Agent Mundo will often put himself at risk to seek permanent justice, while Ryan will level his diehard behavior with her expertise in psychology. Together, they will team up to fight the world’s toughest cyber crimes.”

The popular Dawson’s Creek star has appeared in three shows within the last year: ABC’s Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23, an arc on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother, and as the star of the short-lived CBS comedy Friends with Better Lives. Cyber debuts in midseason on CBS.
