Bryan Cranston and Helen Mirren to star in Jay Roach's 'Trumbo'

Bryan Cranston and Helen Mirren are set to star in Jay Roach’s Trumbo, a film about Roman Holiday writer Dalton Trumbo, their reps confirmed to EW.

Cranston will play the titular character, who made a career as a screenwriter before he was blacklisted from Hollywood in 1947 after refusing to testify before the House Committee on Un-American Activities. After using a pseudonym, Trumbo was eventually able to claim his works, including 1960s Spartacus and Exodus, using his real name.

Helen Mirren will play Hedda Hopper, a gossip columnist who was against Trumbo and an avid supporter of his blacklisting. The Wrap reports that John Goodman, who worked with Cranston previously on 2012’s Argo, is in talks to co-star.

Roach famously directed the Austin Powers films and most recently directed 2012’s The Campaign.
