'Insurgent': Octavia Spencer joins cast

Octavia Spencer has joined the cast of Insurgent, the second installment in the Divergent film series.

Spencer is set to play Johanna, the leader of the Amity faction, in the movie based on Veronica Roth’s best-selling books.

Spencer won both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award in 2012 for her performance in The Help. Most recently, she had a supporting role in this summer’s Fruitvale Station and guested on new CBS sitcom Mom.

Insurgent, which also stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Kate Winslet, will hit theaters March 20, 2015, almost exactly a year after Divergent premiered on March 21, 2014.
