For Parenthood‘s Sarah Braverman (Lauren Graham), the ghosts of exes’ past will continue to reappear with the return of John Corbett. TV Guide reports that Corbett is slated to reprise his role as Seth Holt, Sarah’s ex-husband and Amber (Mae Whitman) and Drew (Miles Heizer)’s father, in an upcoming episode of the NBC dramedy. According to TV Guide, he will appear on episode 13, where Amber unexpectedly visits the restaurant in which he works and causes a scene with a fellow customer. Amber has been going through a tough time recently as her fiancé, Iraq War vet Ryan (Matt Lauria) was arrested for starting a fight with her colleague.

The last time audiences saw Seth was back in season 3, when he turned his life around and reconnected with Sarah and his children. A longtime drug addict and alcoholic, Seth, a musician, spent most of Amber and Drew’s childhood out of the picture as Sarah raised the kids largely on her own. Most recently, he left Berkeley, where the series is set, to start a new life in Tahoe, away from music and drugs.

This news comes right off the heels of the announcement of Jason Ritter‘s return to the series, also reportedly for one episode. Ritter played Mark Cyr, Sarah’s ex-fiancé and Amber and Drew’s former teacher. (The Bravermans like to keep things close to the family.)

What does Corbett’s return signal for Amber, Sarah, and the Braverman clan? Will Corbett and Ritter’s returns aid the NBC series’ ailing ratings?
