'Boy Meets World' cast reunion on 'GMA'

Boy Meets World 02

Surprised at the obsessive torch that still burns online for Boy Meets World, a gentle TGIF sitcom that ended its 7-season run in 2000?

So is the comedy’s cast.

“I don’t think any of us anticipated that after the show went off the air, it was going to gain in popularity,” Danielle Fishel — who played smart, incredibly well-coiffed Topanga Lawrence — says in the below video, shot on the set of EW’s annual Reunions issue. But gain in popularity it did — so much that when the Disney Channel announced that it’s bringing some of the show’s most beloved characters back for a next-gen spinoff called Girl Meets World, the news nearly broke the Internet.

What can explain BMW‘s enduring pop-cultural stamp? It’s certainly not the show’s incredibly dated fashions, recalled with fondness by Fishel, Rider Strong (a.k.a. bad boy Shawn Hunter), and Ben Savage (a.k.a. everykid Cory Matthews, the show’s titular “boy”). Instead, it’s Boy Meets World‘s unique brand of heart, humor… and fabulous hair. “I’m still not stoked on the hair,” Strong says of his famously floppy ’90s boy band cut. “You’re the only one who wasn’t stoked on your hair,” replies Fishel.

Watch the gang — including Will Friedle (older brother Eric Matthews), Lindsay Nicksay (younger sister Morgan Matthews, for two seasons), and William Daniels (consummate teacher Mr. Feeny, who followed Cory, Shawn, and Topanga from middle school to college) — reminisce below. Need more of a BMW fix? Mark Nov. 5 in your calendar — that’s when Boy Meets World: The Complete Collection finally arrives on DVD.
