Lady Gaga unveils 'ARTPOP' cover art

Remember Lady Gaga? The music world has been so distracted by its provocateur du jour Miley Cyrus, the Katy Perry single “Roar,” and the ascension of Lorde that it sometimes seems like Gaga’s album already came and went.

But ARTPOP, her new full-length, isn’t scheduled to hit stores until November 11, and Gaga just pulled back the curtain on the album’s cover art.

The cover was designed by artist Jeff Koons, he of giant metal balloon animals and Jay Z shout-outs fame. “One second I’m a Koons, then suddenly the Koons is me!” Gaga tweeted when she sent out the picture of the cover. That’s not actually her on the cover—it’s a very convincing sculpture of the nude Gaga, with a signature Koons reflective-metal ball cover up her naughty bits.

ARTPOP will drop on November 11. The lead single “Applause” is currently sitting at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100, and another single is reportedly coming soon. Like Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail before it, ARTPOP will also be available via an app that is set to go live soon.

What do you make of the cover art for Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP? Does it make you feel differently about “Applause” or any of the other songs she played during the iTunes Festival? Where does your anticipation level stand for ARTPOP on the whole? Has Gaga been eclipsed by Miley Cyrus as fall’s pop conversation point? Let us know all your Gaga-related thoughts in the comments.
