Casting Net: Michael B. Jordan in talks for 'Independence Day' sequel

• Michael B. Jordan, who broke out this year with his role in the critical favorite Fruitvale Station, is reportedly being eyed for a role in the sequel to 1996’s Independence Day, ID Forever Part 1, which takes place 20 years after the first film. Currently on the schedule for a July 3, 2015 release, the Roland Emmerich-directed sequel will likely find Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman reprising their roles from the original. [The Wrap]

• Christoph Waltz, who scored an Oscar for playing the ruthless Hans Landa in Inglorious Basterds, is in talks to play another bad guy in the new live-action take on Tarzan, starring Alexander Skarsgard as the eponymous tree-swinger. David Yates, who directed the final four films in the Harry Potter franchise is set to helm the adaptation. [Variety]

• Katie Holmes has joined the adaptation of Lois Lowry’s The Giver, starring Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges. She’ll play Jonas’s (Brenton Thwaites) mother in the Phillip Noyce-directed film, which will shoot in South Africa. [THR]

The Help’s Bryce Dallas Howard is in early talks to star in Jurassic World, the fourth movie in the Jurassic Park series. Universal Pictures has scheduled the 3-D movie for a June 12, 2015 release. Safety Not Guaranteed’s Colin Trevorrow is set to direct the project with his writing partner Derek Connolly, with Steven Spielberg serving in a producing capacity. [The Wrap]

• Rosario Dawson (Sin City) is in talks to join the Blumhouse Productions horror flick Incarnate, starring Aaron Eckhart as an exorcist who can inhabit the subconscious of his patients. [THR]

• Saxon Sharbino, who appeared on the television show Touch, will join MGM and Fox 2000’s reboot of Poltergeist. She’ll play the teenage daughter of Sam Rockwell (The Way, Way Back) and Rosemarie DeWitt (Touchy Feely) in the Gil Kenan-directed horror, which recently began production in Toronto. [THR]

Under the Dome’s Natalie Martinez will join Bella Thorne in the self-explanatory thriller Home Invasion. [THR]
