'Veronica Mars' spin-off book release to coincide with movie premiere

She’s been absent for six years, but now Veronica Mars is everywhere: Vintage Books has announced a two-book deal with Rob Thomas and Alloy Entertainment to publish additional adventures of Neptune’s resident detective, with the first book acting as a continuation of the upcoming film version of the television series, which ran from 2004 to 2007.

It is also meant to be a bridge between the 2014 film and a potential sequel. Series creator Rob Thomas told The Hollywood Reporter, “I started my career as a novelist. Veronica Mars was first imagined as a novel. I’m thrilled that I’m going to get the opportunity to continue telling Veronica Mars stories in a form I’ve loved and missed.” Thomas co-created Party Down and the 90210 reboot, and he’s written five original books.

The untitled book is currently slated to go on sale Feb. 4, 2014. The book is available for pre-order on the Random House website for $15.95.

Random House has also released a brief description of the book written by Thomas and Jennifer Graham. Check out the synopsis here:

The first book in an original mystery series featuring twenty-eight-year-old Veronica Mars, back in action after the events of Veronica Mars: The Movie. With the help of old friends — Logan Echolls, Mac Mackenzie, Wallace Fennel, and even Dick Casablancas — Veronica is ready to take on Neptune’s darkest cases with her trademark sass and smarts.

It seems that Logan, Mac, Wallace, and Dick will be sticking around in Neptune — and the land of the living — following the end of Veronica Mars: The Movie. That’s a good sign, especially for Veronica/Logan shippers. Will you be adding the Veronica Mars books to your Mars collection?
