Now that’s what we call action! In this new exclusive photo, Divergent heroines and friends, Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Christina (Zoë Kravitz), can be see leaping from a moving train. Director Neil Burger tells EW that one of the aspects about the film that appealed to him was that in this world of Divergent, bravery comes in all forms, no cape or tights required. “I like superhero movies, but I like that Tris isn’t a superhero,” he says. “She takes a beating and then has to figure things out under enormous pressure on all fronts.”

Divergent, adapted from Veronica Roth’s best-selling YA series, takes place in a grim future civilization divided into five factions that are devoted to positive human attributes: Candor (the honest), Amity (the peaceful), Erudite (the smart), Abnegation (the selfless), and Dauntless (the brave). Once Tris discovers she’s Divergent (suited for more than one faction) she must hide her status and align with the Dauntless crowd…which leads to such initiation rites such as jumping off a train.

“I like that it’s set in the future,” says Burger, who previously directed Limitless and The Illusionist. “It’s fantastic to be able to create a world that’s completely new.”
