Casting Net: Daniel Radcliffe to play American reporter in 'Tokyo Vice'; Plus Reese Witherspoon, more

* In case you chose to forget about Equus and Kill Your Darlings, we're just here to remind you that Daniel Radcliffe is really never going back to his Harry Potter days. He's just lined up a new project: an adaptation of Jake Adelstein's Tokyo Vice, a non-fiction account of Adelstein's work as an American crime journalist in Japan. Music video director Anthony Mandler (Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble" and Rihanna's "Diamonds") will helm the feature, and playwright J.T. Rogers will write the script. [Deadline]

* Natalie Portman knows a thing or two about playing characters blinded by ambition. The Black Swan actress has just signed on to play Lady Macbeth, Shakespeare's ruthless, power-hungry noblewoman, opposite Michael Fassbender's Macbeth. Portman just finished working with Fassbender in Terrence Malick's still untitled Austin music scene pic. The two were also supposed to co-star in Jane Got a Gun, but Fassbender had to back out due to his X-Men schedule. [Screen Daily]

* What scandal? Reese Witherspoon is getting right back to work. Fox 2000 has acquired a screenplay based on the Lynne Truss memoir Get Her Off The Pitch for Witherspoon to star. The screenplay, penned by J. Mills Goodloe (Pride), is titled Depth of Field and changes the setting to America. It will follow Witherspoon's character on a random sports reporting assignment that becomes her beat for the next four years and eventually turns her into a fan. [Deadline]

* Naomi Watts (The Impossible) and Adam Driver (Girls) are in talks to join Noah Baumbach's next project, While We're Young. The film reunites the Frances Ha director with Ben Stiller who led the cast of his 2010 film Greenberg. Stiller is set to play a documentary filmmaker, and Watts would potentially play his wife. Of course they're uptight and get inspired to loosen up when they befriend a younger couple — one half of which might be Driver, who is also in Baumbach's Frances Ha, out in limited release May 17. * Kelsey Grammer has signed on to play the villain in Transformers 4. Director Michael Bay has said this intallemtn will take a new direction from the previous films. Grammer's character will indeed be a human, though. Besides playing the unsavory Mayor Tom Kane in Boss, the Fraiser actor has also lent his voice to a variety of evil characters including The Simpsons' Sideshow Bob and Toy Story 2's Stinky Pete. Grammer will be joining a cast that currently includes Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, and promising newcomer Jack Reynor. [Deadline]

* The independent film 5 To 7 just lined up a slew of actors to join Anton Yelchin (Star Trek), including Glenn Close (Damages), Olivia Thirlby (Juno), Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon), and Bérénice Marlohe (Skyfall). Victor Levin, responsible for writing various Mad Men episodes including "Christmas Waltz," will direct the film, which is expected to begin filming in New York this month. The story follows an aspiring novelist (Yelchin) who has an affair with the wife of a French diplomat. If it's unclear whether or not this setup is supposed to result in a comedy or a drama, that's probably intentional. In the press release announcing the news Mockingbird Pictures execs Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn admitted: "Vic Levin's script has us in tears — we're just not sure if it's from laughing or crying."

* Perks of Being a Wallflower star Logan Lerman has signed on to play an Army typist in Fury, the World War II tank drama starring Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf. Lerman's upcoming projects include Darren Aronofsky's (Black Swan) Noah, and Marc Webb's ((500) Days of Summer) post-graduate in the big city film The Only Living Boy in New York. He's also starring as the title character in the epic Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (in theaters August 7). [Deadline]

* Speaking of Perks, Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries) has boarded the comedy Let's Be Cops as Damon Wayans, Jr.'s (Happy Endings) love interest. James D'Arcy (Cloud Atlas) has also joined the cast. He'll be playing the role of a mobster who will most certainly make things difficult for Wayans, Jr. and Jake Johnson (New Girl) when they decide to impersonate police officers. [Variety]

* Up and coming actress Allyn Rachel (Monica on Weeds) has joined the cast of Disney's Million Dollar Arm with Jon Hamm, Alan Arkin (Argo), and Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi). She'll play an assistant in the film. Rachel, a regular performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade, is also appearing in Seth MacFarlane's A Million Ways to Die in the West. [Variety]
