Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Tony and Emmy nominee Vanessa Williams are heading on a trip to Broadway.

The actors have joined the cast of The Trip to Bountiful which also includes Tony Award nominee Condola Rashad and Academy Award nominee Cicely Tyson. Gooding will be making his Broadway debut; Williams was nominated for a Tony for her role as the Witch in the 2002 revival of Into The Woods, and was last seen onstage in Sondheim on Sondheim in 2010.

The Broadway revival of Horton Foote’s beloved classic will begin previews March 31, and officially opens April 23 for a 14-week limited engagement at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.

“The touching American classic, The Trip To Bountiful, tells the story of Carrie Watts (Tyson), an elderly woman who dreams of returning to her small hometown of Bountiful, TX one last time, against the wishes of her overprotective son (Gooding) and domineering daughter-in-law (Williams). Her journey becomes a heartbreaking but ultimately life-affirming and inspiring tale that examines the fragility of memory and celebrates the enduring power of hope and faith,” according to the press release.

The show is best-known as a 1985 movie where Geraldine Page won the Academy Award for her performance as Carrie Watts.

Tickets are available through the show’s website.
