Kentucky Derby, 'Good Wife' finale, and more in PopWatch Planner

It’s the season of season finale television, and up next we have The Good Wife‘s spring ender, where we’ll learn if the firm can survive its looming bankruptcy. And by the end of this week, we’ll also have the answer to another very important question — Will The Avengers have the biggest weekend opening ever? (Or at least until July, when The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters.) Plus, stars in funny hats! (Because who doesn’t love a funny hat.)

SUNDAY

The Good Wife — CBS, 9p.m.

As the drama’s third season comes to a close, guest stars Martha Plimpton and Michael J. Fox team up to destroy Lockhart and Gardner, while Kalinda (Archie Punjabi) deals with her past and Alicia (Julianna Margulies) decides what to do about her relationship with Peter (Chris Noth.) But star Josh Charles promises there will be fun amidst the serious hour. “I appreciated some of the comedy in it, the farcical quality of everybody bumping into each other,” he told EW of reading the script.

MONDAY

Castle — ABC, 10p.m.

Zombies meet Castle and Beckett in New York City — and no, this isn’t a Walking Dead cross-over. The penultimate episode of Castle’s fourth season — entitled “Undead Again” — provides some light humor before the May 7th finale, where the secrets that Castle and Beckett have been keeping all season will come to a head.

TUESDAY

Carrie Underwood releases Blown Away

Underwood has come a long way since winning American Idol in 2005, and she’s still on fire. Blown Away is the singer’s fourth studio album, and this week she’ll also perform on the show that made her a star.

WEDNESDAY

American Idol — FOX, 8p.m.

It’s British night on FOX’s singing competition, and we are crossing our fingers that someone from the top five picks a One Direction song. Come on guys, anyone can choose The Beatles, but it takes guts to sing “That’s What Makes You Beautiful.”

THURSDAY

Grey’s Anatomy — ABC, 9p.m.

Meredith Grey and co. find out if they passed their medical boards to finally become full-fledged doctors. (It’s been five years Seattle Grace time, but eight seasons for us.) The teaser suggests that one of the sexy docs failed, which could set up the mystery person’s departure. (Several of the stars’ contracts are up this year. And with no news on who is or isn’t coming back, we’re getting a little bit nervous.)

FRIDAY

The Avengers opens in theaters

Box office tracking indicates that The Avengers may have enough super powers to overtake Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2‘s opening weekend record. And with the wide appeal of the film, we’re guessing many of you will be there this weekend.

SATURDAY

The Kentucky Derby — NBC, 4p.m.

Churchhill Downs hosts the annual Run for the Roses, which is the best excuse of the year to break out the bourbon to make Mint Juleps. Take a drink every time the camera cuts to a celebrity in a huge hat — part of the uniform for those lucky enough to attend. Oh yes, there will be horses, too.

SUNDAY

Masterpiece Mystery! Sherlock: A Scandal in Belgravia — PBS, 9p.m.

The updated Sherlock swoops in to fill the void left by Downton Abbey on PBS. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the irksome detective and Martin Freeman as Watson, the show returns after a long hiatus to solve more mysteries based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s timeless series.
