8 a.m. Calls Summit Entertainment from car to discuss the Oct. 5 release date for Sinister
It’s a horror movie we shot this fall with director Scott Derrickson [who also did The Exorcism of Emily Rose] that stars Ethan Hawke, whom I’ve known for 20 years. We’re old friends.

8:45 a.m. Arrives on the set of the upcoming Michael Bay-produced thriller Vigilandia
It stars Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey from Game of Thrones. I go to the set in Chatsworth, California, every day to make sure everything is running smoothly. We had a lot of extras working today, so we were looking at their wardrobe and deciding what kind of weapons they should hold.

11 a.m. Story meeting for Paranormal Activity 4
I have a meeting on the Paramount lot every week with [franchise creator] Oren Peli and studio executives.

Noon Weekend-reading meeting at Blumhouse Productions
We talk about all the material that’s come in to the company over the week and then we split it up.

1 p.m. Marketing meeting back on the Vigilandia set
It was our ninth day of shooting. We were talking about what the poster and trailer might look like. And it was an opportunity for the marketing people to get to know Ethan.

3 p.m. Conference call with Rob Zombie
I talked with him about the first cut of his new horror film Lords of Salem. It’s a classic Rob Zombie movie.

3:30 p.m. Meeting with Lionsgate Television Group president Kevin Beggs
We’ve had an ongoing conversation about how to bring my low-budget model over to television. [Blum also exec-produces ABC’s The River.]

5 p.m. Call with director Joe Johnston (Captain America: The First Avenger)
He’s directing our office-set thriller Not Safe for Work, with Eloise Mumford and Max Minghella. The low-budget model is new for Joe, so we’ve been talking a lot about scheduling.

6 p.m. Reviews audition clips for Mockingbird on his iPad
It starts shooting in five weeks. It’s a found-footage horror movie, so you can’t cast anybody famous. It has to be unknowns.

9 p.m. CAA’s pre-Oscar party
Everyone was in a really good mood. I joked with Harvey Weinstein about remaking The Artist into a horror movie.
