Evangeline Lilly discusses 'The Hobbit'

For the rest of her natural life, Evangeline Lilly is going to have to answer questions about Lost. Did the numbers ever really matter? Why did Kate have to ruin everything? Lucky for her, those questions may subside for a while so that incessant queries about The Hobbit can take their place.

Lilly, who stars in this weekend’s robot-boxing movie Real Steel, fielded a few of them during her visit to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Monday. The actress told Leno that after Lost had wrapped, she’d intended to take time off, but she got an offer she couldn’t refuse. “Pete Jackson called and said, ‘Would you like to be an elf on The Hobbit?’ and I said ‘Yes, I really do. I really do want to do that,” Lilly recalled.

The new mom (early in the interview Lilly explains that she pulled a Claire, skipping the hospital entirely and having a natural home birth for her son) talked a little bit about her role as the new Woodland Elf Tauriel and breastfeeding her four-month old in full elvish attire. According to the star, her baby “freaked out” when he looked up an saw a mysterious, pointy-eared woman who resembled her. Lilly said that her partner (boyfriend Norman Kali) later joked, “You know his internal dialogue is, ‘Mom you wouldn’t believe what happened to me today.”

Check out the full interview below. But, if you don’t want to listen to Leno imply he can have sex for 30 hours (Good morning, PopWatchers!), skip to the three-minute mark to hear all talk of Tolkien. Watch:
