Johnny Depp on Oprah

I’ve had actual dreams that have started this way: Johnny Depp emerges out of nowhere, champagne flutes in hand, and offers to take me to the movies. But for the audience members of today’s episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, that was very much a reality.

With just 15 episodes left, Oprah isn’t messing around. The May 5 episode marked the final installment of the “Harpo hook-ups,” and there was a surprise Lady Gaga performance of “Born This Way” and “You And I” (complete with a high heel piano and a sting ray hat would have made Princess Beatrice jealous), a prom dress makeover courtesy of Jessica Simpson, a SportsCenter anchor gig, and a Disney princess wedding (could you really even say no to a marriage proposal with Oprah two feet away?!).

But, it was Depp’s appearance — and awesome gesture — that made for the most gasp-worthy moment. The actor — who just so happens to grace the cover of our mag this week — popped in and talked Pirates. Depp told Winfrey he could “keep going” with the Pirates movies and that his Captain Jack Sparrow has “most definitely” become a part of him now.

After their brief chat, Depp alerted the Oprah audience that not only were buses lined up outside the Chicago studio to take them to a screening of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (making them the first non-industry folks to see the flick), but that, if it was okay with them, he would go to the theater with them. So that, as he put it, he could “make sure all the condiments and things are in order.”

I think it’s time to go back to bed.

How would you have reacted to a surprise like that from Johnny Depp, PopWatchers?
