'Rango' trailer: The Johnny Depp-Gore Verbinski collaboration comes into focus

After that vague teaser for Rango, the animated film starring Johnny Depp and directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean), it’s nice to get a trailer that actually features Depp’s titular character. What we learn: Rango is a chameleon who ends up in the Mojave Desert and has a hard time fitting in (it could be the shirt), which may get him killed. Also, that just seeing the image of Rango, we would’ve guessed he was voiced by Depp. Or, Steve Buscemi. (According to Empire Online, which snagged the first look at the poster, pictured, ILM technology will “capture and translate every aspect of [Depp’s] performance, using it to drive the computer-generated character in a way that has yet to be seen in an animated feature.”)

Rango seems delightfully bumbling and neurotic to me — a perfect addition to Depp’s oeuvre?
