Kevin Smith's 'Porno' wins MPAA appeal, lands R rating

Kevin Smith appealed the NC-17 rating on his upcoming comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno and won. The film, starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks as friends who seek to solve their money woes by starring in a porn film, has now been granted the more accessible R rating, which will enable it to play in more theaters across the country. Zack and Miri marks the third winning appeal that Smith has brought up with the MPAA. Both Clerks and Jersey Girl also had the MPAA’s original ratings overturned by the appeals board. “Somewhere up there, George Carlin is smiling today,” says Harvey Weinstein, whose Weinstein Company produced the film, of the rating reversal. Zack and Miri will open on October 31.
