New ''Terminator'' aims for PG-13 rating

The producers behind Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins say they want to broaden the franchise’s appeal by making it a PG-13 movie, despite the fact that the previous three films in the sci-fi/action saga have been R-rated hits. The move echoes one made by the Die Hard franchise: Last year’s Live Free or Die Hard was rated PG-13, and went on to become the highest-grossing film in that series. Should the new Terminator (starring Christian Bale as John Connor) carry the PG-13 rating, it would also open doors to toy-licensing deals. Still, producers at Halcyon say they will uphold the standards of the franchise. Said Halcyon co-founder and co-CEO Derek Anderson, ”We won’t force it. We are carrying on in the tradition of the mythology, with an exciting approach to the action. If we can make a compelling film to reach the widest audience, why wouldn’t we do it?” (Variety)
