''Grey's Anatomy'' goes back to work -- Shonda Rhimes and company return to the set with big plans for Meredith and McDreamy

Grey’s Anatomy executive producer Shonda Rhimes is promising big developments when her ABC drama returns April 24. Before Grey’s went on an unplanned three-month break due to the Writers Guild strike, Rhimes and her staff were gradually bringing Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) back together, despite interference from nurse Rose (Lauren Stamile). Now, with production finally ramping up for the season’s five remaining episodes, Rhimes says she’s more determined than ever to reunite the hit show’s core couple by the end of the season. ”My goal is to get Meredith and Derek together for good and let them try to figure out what it is to be in a relationship in the future,” she says. ”Before, it was, Can we do this and make it work? And now it’s, Not only can we do it and make it work, but watch what happens: It’s going to be incredibly interesting.” And a little scary, too. Grey’s star T.R. Knight, who plays surgical intern George O’Malley, is a bit nervous about going back to the set. ”Normally after a hiatus, the first week I don’t know how to act, or I know how to act even less than I normally know how to act,” he says. ”You’re very much getting your sea legs. You’re going, What language is this?” Don’t worry, T.R., they’ll have you speaking McEnglish again in no time.
