'Young Frankenstein': Broadway Netflixes some inspiration

Ah, Broadway: Like Blockbuster, but with a better color scheme.

The movie-musical resurgence awaits redemption (possibly in the form of Dreamgirls) after that Nathan Lane-spittle-soaked setback that was The Producers. Meanwhile, the movie-to-musical is still going strong: Mel Brooks and collaborator Thomas Meehan are finally running some current through Young Frankenstein (pictured) their long-awaited follow up to The Producers. Broadway darling Brian D’Arcy James and born-again Aaron Sorkin survivor Kristin Chenoweth will play the leads originally assayed by Gene Wilder and Madeline Kahn. And Cloris Leachman’s back as Frau Blucher! (tech guys, insert horses rearing and whinnying here –thanks! sb)

And that’s not all! With 2D images adjudged more and more dangerous, parents are rushing their kids to the 3D safe-haven of live theater! Well, not really, but wouldn’t that be good news for Disney, repurposer of undersea properties. With one undersea movie-to-musical already in the works, the Pixar subsidiary will now musicalize Finding Nemo. Bruce the Shark, it is said, will perform a “punk” number. Is Rollins available? I’m guessing he is. Ah, but Nemo, unlike The Little Mermaid, won’t see Broadway anytime soon. It’s only a thirty-minute show, designed for theme-park performances. But I’m guessing Rollins is still available.
