Saw III explores the connection between murderous mastermind John, a.k.a. Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), and his unlikely apprentice, Amanda (Shawnee Smith), as they demonstrate the value of lifeâ?¦via sinister death traps. ”Their life’s work is attempting to wake people up,” says Smith. This time, she and Bell rehearsed independently to give her apprenticeship the necessary emotional heft. ”The whole movie hinges on [the audience] buying the truth about their relationship,” says Smith. ”I mean, all serial killers are human beings.”
