''Madea's Family'' reunited with the No. 1 spot

Lackluster openings by the weekend’s four new releases helped Madea’s Family Reunion log another week at the top of the box office chart this weekend. Tyler Perry’s drag comedy grossed another $13 million, according to studio estimates, bringing its 10-day total to $48.1 million.

Madea plummeted 57 percent from its $30 million debut last weekend, but none of the weekend’s new movies was able to capitalize. Bruce Willis’ thriller 16 Blocks placed second, premiering with a mediocre $11.7 million. That’s a bit more than Willis’ 2005 drama Hostage (which opened with $10.2 million) but far less than the $29.1 million take of his ensemble hit Sin City.

Meanwhile, Eight Below continued its fine run, slipping 35 percent to $10.3 million. Rounding out the top five were two other new entries: Milla Jovoich’s sci-fi thriller Ultraviolet managed only a $9 million debut, while the teen mermaid flick Aquamarine swam off with a poor $7.5 million opening. And Dave Chappelle’s Block Party, which opened in far fewer theaters than the rest of the competition, scored a seventh-place debut with $6.5 million. Hopefully that party will continue for the next few weeks to come.
