Who are your favorite TV couples, in comedy and drama? — Mike W.
Most screechy sitcom duos today annoy rather than charm, so I’ll cast back to Cheers‘ Sam and Diane, a pairing of two bright people that buzzed with sexual energy and artful banter. As for drama: Tony and Carmela’s complicated union keeps me watching The Sopranos. Their obsession with house and hearth, with who gets what and who’s allowed where (and why), was dreamily piqued last season with Tony’s horseback arrival in the living room. This bitter, bubbling relationship is a powerful home brew.
