Will Nicolas Cage deliver a new ''National'' No. 1?

Can The Incredibles make it three weeks in a row at the top of the box office chart? Not if Nicolas Cage and some character called SpongeBob have anything to say about it.

Cage reteams with Jerry Bruckheimer, his producer on Con Air, The Rock, and Gone in 60 Seconds, for National Treasure, a heist thriller in which Cage’s character attempts to steal a copy of the Declaration of Independence he believes has a treasure map on the other side. Audience anticipation for the film seems high, which should result in a debut of around $35 million — good enough for the No. 1 slot.

Meanwhile, the smash animated film The Incredibles will take another small drop, this time around 35 percent, to gross $33 million in its third weekend.

It’s possible that three of the top five films will be of the cartoon variety, as The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie — hoping to capitalize on the heat generated by The Incredibles — soaks up space in more than 3,200 theaters. Look for SpongeBob to bring in fans of all ages, to the tune of about $18 million.

After premiering with an impressive $8.7 million in just 530 theaters last weekend, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason more than quadruples its theater count and will be rewarded with a $15 million weekend, while The Polar Express will drop around 40 percent in its second weekend to $14 million. With five films likely to gross $14 million or more, seems like there’ll be enough treasure to go around.
