''Shark Tale'' takes a bite out of the box office again

''Shark Tale'' takes a bite out of the box office again. As Dave Karger predicted the animated movie beat out ''Friday Night Lights'' and ''Ladder 49''

Shark Tale

The animated hit Shark Tale showed a lot of bite in its second weekend, grossing another $31.7 million for another week atop the box office charts, according to studio estimates. The DreamWorks film slipped only 33 percent from its opening weekend and has earned an impressive $87.7 million in its first 10 days.

The well-reviewed football drama Friday Night Lights didn’t come close to the Shark, but still managed a decent opening, grossing $20.6 million, almost as much as Remember the Titans‘ $20.9 million debut four years ago. Meanwhile, John Travolta’s firefighting drama Ladder 49 fell 40 percent in its second weekend to $13.3 million, bringing its 10-day total to $41.2 million.

The Jimmy Fallon/Queen Latifah buddy comedy Taxi had a bit of a disappointing debut, grossing $12.1 million for fourth place, while Julianne Moore’s The Forgotten hung on for one more week in the top five with $7.5 million. But flop-of-the-week honors go to Hilary Duff’s teen drama Raise Your Voice, which earned only $4.6 million, far below the debuts of her Lizzie McGuire Movie ($17.3 million) and A Cinderella Story ($13.6 million). Apparently Duff’s fans want her to keep it light; Voice will be lucky to gross in total what her two hits made in their first three days.
