Alanis Morissette is engaged

Alanis Morissette is engaged. She'll marry ''Van Wilder'' star Ryan Reynolds, her muse for much of her current album's songs

Let’s just hope it doesn’t rain on her wedding day, since that would be too ironic. Us Weekly reports that Alanis Morissette is engaged to actor Ryan Reynolds. It’ll be the first marriage for the Canadian couple, who’ve dated for two years. ”I knew early on that he was someone I could spend the rest of my life with,” the 30-year-old rocker tells the magazine. ”I just feel like we’re family and we’re on this journey of evolving together. He’s courageous, he’ll talk about anything, he takes responsibility, he’s just unbelievable.” No word yet on a date or venue for the nuptials.

Reynolds, who played a groom in last year’s movie ”The In-Laws,” first struck up a friendship with Morissette via e-mail in 2002, back when he was best known as the star of ABC’s ”Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place” and ”National Lampoon’s Van Wilder.” (The actor had previously dated ”She’s All That” star Rachael Leigh Cook.) Recently, Us reports, the 27-year-old actor flew to Ottawa to ask Morissette’s folks for her hand in marriage, then popped the question to the singer, offering her a 2.5-carat emerald-cut platinum ring he helped design himself. ”We were at home,” she told Us. ”It was very simple, pure and sweet — and shocking!”

While Morissette is known for writing venomous lyrics about guys who’ve done her wrong (most notoriously, ”Full House” actor Dave Coulier, who has acknowledged being the inspiration for ”You Oughta Know”), Reynolds has served as a muse for the much happier love songs on her current release, ”So-Called Chaos.” ”It was hard for me not to write about my boyfriend Ryan,” she recently told VH1. ”I think I’ll be giddy about him forever.”
