Kelsey Grammer says Frasier Crane may return

Has Frasier really left the building? Even though Thursday marks the series finale of ”Frasier,” Kelsey Grammer says he may continue to play the psychiatrist role he’s played for 20 years on ”Frasier” and ”Cheers.” He told the Associated Press that he’d discussed with Paramount Television, ”Frasier”’s producer, the prospect of a third series for Dr. Crane. ”It may be a possibility at some point,” Grammer said on Tuesday. ”I’m not closed to the possibility. It would have to be really good.” Still, he says, after 20 years, he’d like at least a vacation from playing Frasier, adding that he’s not likely to resurrect him until a time ”when the television landscape is appropriately bleak.”

A Paramount executive declined AP’s request to comment on a possible ”Frasier” spinoff, but David Hyde Pierce, who’s played Frasier’s brother Niles for 11 years, said he approved of the idea, even though a new series might not include him. He said of Grammer: ”The idea of him going on with the character is totally plausible. I don’t feel at the end of the series that he’d exhausted all he could do with the character. I think it’s a great idea.”
