The Charts

There were some close calls on the chart this week. Not long after Colin Farrell hit No. 1 with The Recruit, he dialed up the right number again with the psychological thriller Phone Booth, making it the top debut on both the DVD and VHS charts. Despite static from critics, Booth managed to edge out John Travolta’s military-exercise-gone-bad drama Basic. But Farrell’s roguish appeal wasn’t enough to keep renters away from Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey’s chick-flick union: The romantic comedy How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days continued to woo fans and hold on to the top spot for rentals.
