New OutKast album inspires HBO movie. August's double album ''SpeakerBoxx/The Love Below'' will become a musical about a love triangle

OutKast’s long-awaited double album ”SpeakerBoxx/The Love Below” won’t be out until August, but it’s already inspired a TV movie. According to the Hollywood Reporter, HBO will air the yet-to-be-titled film, which producers describe as a ”’sophistafunk’ modern-day renaissance musical” about a ”surreal love triangle.” The film will contain 10 songs from the rap duo’s concept album, which is really two solo discs, one by Big Boi and the other by Andre 3000.

The musical is one of six original projects that producer Mosaic Media Group has commissioned for HBO from rising urban filmmakers. Directing the ”SpeakerBoxx” project will be Bryan Barber, who has shot music videos for OutKast, as well as for Queen Latifah, Run-DMC, Jermaine Dupree and Dr. Dre.
