The Brothers

Seemingly cloned from other, better movies like The Best Man and The Wood, last spring’s semi-hit follows the luckless love lives of four buppie friends with serious relationship issues. Alas, only Chestnut, as a young doctor with a chronic fear of commitment, gets a halfway decent story line, while the other brothers flail around in subplots far too shallow and silly to merit their equal time. Yet the movie’s worst sin is wasting the female half of its ensemble cast — especially sparkling Gabrielle Union as Chestnut’s one-in-a-million girlfriend. A little more of the sisters might have tempered the testosterone of what becomes a tediously egocentric bachelor party.
