Young Frankenstein

One of hundreds of movies given the deluxe treatment on laser disc, Mel Brooks’ second funniest (”The Producers” is first) and most polished spoof arrives with a 36-minute making-of docu from ’96; amusing bloopers and outtakes; trailers; some interviews done for Mexican TV during filming; and Brooks’ warm, amusing audio commentary (he often pauses to hear punchlines that still tickle him and reveals that Columbia turned the movie down when he insisted on a budget of at least $2 million). Every performance is pitch-perfect, but Young Frankenstein is Gene Wilder’s ”Hamlet” and he is pure genius. Hilarious. Movie: A+ Extras: A-
