The Big One

Gonzo documentarian Michael Moore takes his cameras along on a 48-city promotional tour for his book Downsize This!, looking for cities where thriving companies are closing factories to fatten profit margins. Reviving his cheeky Roger & Me routine, the filmmaker barges into corporate offices to confront unsuspecting CEOs. Only Nike’s Phil Knight shows his face (to explain why his company doesn’t have any American factories), but Moore has just as much fun with lesser execs — including one from a company relocating to Mexico, who accepts his banner-size check for 80 cents, ”to pay the first Mexican worker for the first hour of work.” Moore’s latest swipe at corporate greed lacks the focus of the one-city, one-CEO Roger & Me, but The Big One is still as angry as it is funny.
