9-1-1's Tommy reveals his 'intentions' with Buck in deleted season 7 scene

Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Karen (Tracie Thoms) grill Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) in a newly revealed scene that was cut from the ABC drama.

No, Tommy, we are not still talking about cake.

When 9-1-1 revealed Buck (Oliver Stark) was entering a relationship with helicopter pilot Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.), they wasted no time keeping the firefighter's bisexuality a secret from his fellow 118 colleagues. The development was met with, at most, "am I seeing what I think I'm seeing" glances followed by shrugs after it was clear Tommy and Buck were romantically involved. But — in a deleted scene from season 7 now released by ABC — it's clear that at least some of Buck's friends had questions about the new couple.

"Wondering what other conversations were had while we were at the LAFD Medal of Valor Ceremony? Then here's some bonus content for you," reads the caption accompanying the clip posted on the official 911onabc Instagram account.

In the clip (above), Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Karen (Tracie Thoms) approach Tommy with some pointed questions as he attempts to return to his seat with a piece of cake. "Where are you going with this?" Hen asks Tommy, who (at least pretends) to think she's talking about his dessert. Buck, he explains, isn't having any cake because he's in ketosis. "We're talking about your intentions," Hen explains before Karen chimes in: "Are they honorable?"

“We are taking it very slow,” Tommy replies. “In fact, I’m letting him set the pace," he adds before a slight pause and cheeky turn to Hen: "And I’m just trying to keep up.”

Following Buck's surprise kiss with Tommy in episode 4 of the season, Stark spoke to EW about what Buck was feeling and what was to come as the storyline played out: "Certainly for somebody finding this in their 30s, they'd be questioning, right? 'What does this mean?' 'Who am I?' 'What about all these things that I thought to be true of myself?' And so there's some reckoning to deal with in the next episode, and then leaning on the people that are closest to him, and finding the right moments to open up and how much to share. And then in typical 9-1-1 fashion, having his family support him and make him feel the best version of himself.

It seems that manifested in Hen and Karen as an ambush interrogation. The couple seemed assuaged by Tommy's response in the deleted scene — unlike online haters who have been very vocal with their thoughts about Buck entering a same-sex relationship.

"Humbled and overwhelmed by the positive reaction to Buck’s storyline. I've read so many of your messages and I couldn't be prouder," Stark wrote in an Instagram Stories post after the reveal. "If you are one of the smaller group of people commenting on my posts about how this has ruined the show, I would like you to know that I truly don’t care. This is a show about love and inclusion. It’s featured queer relationships from the very beginning including a beautiful Black lesbian marriage played out by two of the best actresses I’ve ever watched. If one other character finding a new facet to his sexuality and realizing his bisexuality is your deal breaker — I fear you’ve missed the entire point of the show."

9-1-1 is set to return for season 8 on ABC.
