Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, a special day in American history. On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger came to Texas and announced that all enslaved people were free. This moment is called Juneteenth National Independence Day, Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day, and Emancipation Day. As people moved from Texas to other states, they took the celebration with them. Now, Juneteenth is celebrated all across the country.
