From coal to gas and hydrogen: a step forward in #energytransition! Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia gives green light to Uniper's new Scholven 1 combined heat and power plant in Gelsenkirchen (Germany). We are proud to have contributed to this milestone in the country's energy transition as part of the team responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the plant. With a capacity of around 140 MW, Scholven 1 will help meet the energy demand of industry and other customers in the region, helping to reduce CO2 emissions and replacing the previous coal-dependent infrastructure.   At its core, it consists of two gas turbines, a steam turbine, two heat recovery steam generators and a gas-fired steam boiler. To create space to start up new sustainable projects at Scholven, free space must be created by decommissioning the facilities. The decommissioning of Block F has already begun, and others will follow in succession. The final commissioning of "Scholven 1" will take place as soon as the final expert inspections have been completed and the corresponding documentation has been handed over. Did you know that electric trains are one of the most energy-efficient means of transport? 🌿 Electric trains emit between 20 and 30 grams of CO₂ per passenger-kilometer, compared to cars, which emit approximately 121 grams of CO₂ per passenger-kilometer and aeroplanes, which emit around 285 grams of CO₂ per passenger-kilometer. In addition, car sharing can reduce the total number of vehicles on the road, reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 41%🚘. Proud to be part of a new milestone in the expansion of the Panama City #metro network: the recently opened extension to Villa Zaita! At Sener we already participated in the project of the first phase of Line 1, which was commissioned in 2014, and now we have participated as the lead designer of the civil works for this new section that extends to the north of the city and will benefit more than 300,000 residents of North Panama and surrounding areas. 🗨 “This extension will grow the network’s capacity and provide service to new areas, promoting intermodality and ultimately allowing more of the public to access more efficient mobility alternatives,” says Pelayo Suárez, head of Sener at Panama. The extension of Line 1 to Villa Zaita also includes an intermodal building consisting of a bus station (with 16 platforms) and two parking floors (600 spaces), and the redevelopment of the area around the track and station, with a total area close to 13 hectares.
