We're in #Brussels 🇧🇪 for the Copernicus ECMWF Climate Change Service General Assembly 2024 this week. Yesterday, José Manuel Gutiérrez [Instituto de Física de Cantabria (IFCA, CSIC-UC), pictured] presented the new Copernicus Interactive Climate Atlas (https://lnkd.in/dhiJMcM9) we co-developed. It's a new, powerful tool to visualise climate variability and change. Today's the last day of the meeting. You can follow their livestream here: https://t.co/o15YLr2qrE

Want to know more about the current and future #climate risks in Europe? You can explore them using the new interactive #dtaviewers we've developed 🔽 https://lnkd.in/d_nP9niq
What are the current and future #climate risks in Europe? Our first-ever European Climate Risk Assessment (#EUCRA) received a lot of attention! To help you explore further, we've created two interactive #dataviewers. 📊 🔸 Curious about #climaterisks? Get an overview of the major risks according to their urgency, severity, time horizons, and policy ownership and how they link to exposed EU policy areas. 🔸 Curious about #drivers? Get an overview of the observed and projected climatic and non-climatic impact drivers affecting the different regions of Europe. Use the viewers here: https://lnkd.in/eJaGX2eH

Will there be more extreme heat days? Will there be less but more torrential precipitation? How will climate change affect our food security? And how certain are we about all this? The European Environment Agency has recently published the final version of the first #Climate Risk Assessment report (you can read it here: https://lnkd.in/eJaGX2eH). Allow us to introduce the interactive #dataviz tools we've developed for a better understanding of the report. MAJOR RISKS showcases (you've guessed it) #climatechange risks to coastal and marine ecosystems, to crop production, to infrastructure, heat stress... You can explore them interactively (https://lnkd.in/dT34Cibb) both in a table or in a spaghetti chart. IMPACT DRIVERS (https://lnkd.in/dbYgieEt) is also quite self-explanatory - you can filter by region, emissions scenario, term... and see the impact of heatwave, drought or precipitation projections in a report-like table or a map. Want to know more? Our latest blog post will provide you with more details: https://lnkd.in/dX5pGKBM

Thank you #Berlin! 🇩🇪 Our colleague Sergio Natal Pérez has been participating in the Envisioning the Future for an Early Warning System (#EWS) for Sand Fly-borne Diseases in Europe | Foresight Stakeholder Workshop, as a part of the CLIMOS Project this week. It was held at Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft / Helmholtz Association with the coordination of the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Trilateral Research. The workshop was aimed at developing qualitative scenarios for the role of an EWS by 2035. Participants reflected on current experiences and requirements for EWS, discussing how such a system could help mitigate diseases like #Leishmaniasis and other vector-borne diseases. The urgent issue of sand fly-borne diseases, exacerbated by climate change, environmental changes and globalization, has driven increased research efforts to predict the spread of these diseases to new areas and their heightened prevalence in regions where they are already endemic. The event provided an excellent networking opportunity for public health authorities, policymakers, veterinarians, representatives from social and animal rights organizations, pharmaceuticals, researchers, patients and experts in vector-borne diseases, particularly Phlebotomine sand flies. This international co-creation dialogue event emphasized one of CLIMOS project's goals of supporting the development of an EWS for all endemic sand fly vectors, major pathogens (Leishmania parasites and Phleboviruses) and sand fly-related health infections and potential diseases. This forward-looking approach aimed to generate predictions to inform policy recommendations, provide interactive risk management maps and conduct cost and benefit assessments for adaptation strategies.
