Based on the English Empowerment Center’s almost 60-year history of teaching adult English learners and on current best practices, the English Empowerment Center proudly offers Adult ESOL Instructor Basics. This training will equip you with the principles, strategies and tools you need to teach beginning-level English to adults of immigrant or refugee background. The training employs a blended learning approach. You will complete asynchronous modules online at your own pace and participate in the two-part live training.

In addition to learning effective practices for teaching in a virtual setting, you will learn to:

  • Recognize and leverage the characteristics and strengths of adult learners
  • Give clear instructions for tasks and provide feedback strategically
  • Adapt textbook materials for literacy-level learners and multilevel classes
  • Integrate and contextualize language skills for community, work, and school success
  • Promote a supporting learning environment for culturally and linguistically diverse students
