MINSK, 11 July (BelTA) – Russians are interested in studying the Belarusian experience of protecting forests from fires. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Piotr Parkhomchik made the statement after Forestry Minister Aleksandr Kulik delivered a report, the press service of the Belarusian Forestry Ministry told BelTA.

The deputy prime minister received Aleksandr Kulik’s report. The forestry minister described the situation in a number of aspects: the fire hazardous situation in forests, the promotion of wooden house construction, the provision of woodworking enterprises with the necessary raw materials, including the fulfillment of government orders, results of export efforts of woodworking industry enterprises, and the need to expand the fleet of short-log trucks.

Piotr Parkhomchik has recently visited Russia’s Sverdlovsk Oblast. This region suffers from a lot of forest fires, including major ones. Russians contacted the Belarusian deputy prime minister with a request to study the experience of Belarusian forest wardens in the field of ensuring fire safety in forests. Aleksandr Kulik promised to welcome the colleagues. “The fire hazardous situation is complicated right now. We see the current hot weather,” the forestry minister said as he talked about the situation in Belarusian forests. “At the same time we have all the forces and assets for effectively protecting forests from fires, for preventing emergencies. We have also polished the algorithm for dealing with the threat of combustions.”

Aleksandr Kulik stressed that the state forest protection service is working great this season. An overwhelming majority of fires are put out early. Since the beginning of the year the Forestry Ministry forests have suffered 178 fires with the total area of 116.9 hectares.
