PM: Belarus, Russia’s Sverdlovsk Oblast can reach $1bn in trade

YEKATERINBURG, 9 July (BelTA) – Belarus and Sverdlovsk Oblast of Russia have everything in place to achieve $1 billion in trade, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he met with Sverdlovsk Oblast Governor Yevgeny Kuyvashev, BelTA has learned.

“Last year, Belarus was a partner country at the INNOPROM expo. We held a large number of meetings and negotiations, toured many enterprises. This is already bearing fruit. In 2023, our trade was estimated at $800 million, an increase of 5% over 2022. Over the five months of this year our trade amounted to $365 million, up by 12% year-on-year. If such trade dynamics remain in place, it is quite possible to hit the $1 billion mark. To do this, it is necessary to consistently fulfill all the agreements. We have switched from equipment and machinery supplies to industrial cooperation,” said Roman Golovchenko.

He also mentioned the Belarus-Russia project to develop a light twin-turboprop aircraft Osvey. “I am glad to inform you about substantial progress in the implementation of this project. As you remember, this idea was born almost accidentally during my visit to Ural Works of Civil Aviation. An agreement has already been signed between Ural Works of Civil Aviation and a Belarusian organization for the design of the aircraft; technical specifications have been issued. Work got started. It was a good idea that was born on Yekaterinburg soil. Now this idea is being translated into reality,” the prime minister noted.

The Belarusian head of government came to Yekaterinburg to attend the international industrial exhibition INNOPROM. Belarusian enterprises are taking part in this expo as part of the Made in Belarus exposition. The Belarusian exposition is on par with that of the United Arab Emirates, this year's partner country, in terms of the number of new products and exhibits. The Belarusian stand has aroused a great interest among professional visitors, representatives of foreign companies and the business community.
