WAPT

WAPT (analog channel 16; digital channel 21) is Jackson, Mississippi's longtime ABC affiliate. The station began broadcasting in August, 1970.

In fall, 1993, WAPT was one of 57 ABC affiliates in the US that had initially banned Steven Bochco's controversial crime drama, NYPD: Blue. WAPT's ban on the show was finally lifted in January, 1995. And surprisingly, the number of viewers who wanted the station to lift the ban on NYPD: Blue was much greater than those who wanted the station to continue the ban.
