Slip-on shoe
Appearance
Penny loafers are a particular type of footwear for humans. Penny loafers first appeared around the 1940s.
This type of shoe is a low leather step-in with the the top resembling a moccasin but it has a broad flat heel. They have a moscasin-like appearance and have no shoelaces or buckles. Penny loafers are formal leather shoes that are slipped on rather than tied on with shoelaces. Penny loafers have a little slot to hold a coin, but usually a dime is placed inside instead of a penny. Phones of the 1960s charged a dime, so the coin could be used to call home.
Penny loafers are worn by both sexes, though more likely by men. (Women also have a different style of penny loafers)
